Three richly dressed riders sweep across a brilliant yellow field in this wonderfully lively miniature, their elegant horses caught mid-stride as the players lean into the game with mallets raised. The scene combines movement, sport and courtly refinement with the jewel-like colour and decorative detail of historic Indian painting.

More than a card
