Our Story | 15 Years of Strand

Fifteen years ago, Strand was a small independent record and video game shop.

As the world changed and more people began buying music and games online, we realised that if Strand was to have a future, it would need to evolve. Between serving customers, we started designing T-shirts, learning screen printing and building our very first online shop.

Over time, what began as a handful of designs grew into something much bigger.

We soon realised that our most successful designs were the ones inspired by the things we genuinely cared about. David's love of music led to our Drum & Bass and vinyl-inspired designs, while Anastasia's fascination with Japanese art and culture gradually grew from Japan-themed T-shirts into greeting cards, art prints and calendars celebrating some of Japan's most beautiful woodblock prints.

Looking back, we weren't trying to build a particular style of shop. We were simply collecting together the things that inspired us.

Those interests still shape Strand today — from original music and science-inspired designs to Japanese art, calligraphy and carefully chosen woodblock prints that we hope more people will discover and enjoy. The collection has grown gradually over the years, one idea and one carefully chosen design at a time.

 

Today, Strand is still a small family-run business. Things may look a little different from that record shop fifteen years ago, but the idea behind it hasn't changed very much: we make and sell things that we genuinely like ourselves. Every product is created, selected, printed or packed with the same care that has guided us from the beginning.
