Edmund Dulac (1882 – 1953) was one of the great figures from the Golden Age of Illustration.
His works, eclectic and ethereal, referencing both Japanese prints and Persian miniatures, had a pronounced influence of Orientalism about them. The resulting exquisite use of colour, detail, texture are unparalleled in creating the magical scenes that feel like real glimpses into the enchanting universe of fairy kingdoms and all things wonderful and magic ♥

(Please note that the image has a subtle halftone-like effect - it is not a photograph, so it does not have, nor it intends to have a photographic sharpness. It has a lovely painterly texture to its strokes - which is unsurprising, since Dulac worked in watercolor and gouache, actually painting, rather than inking his illustrations as it was more common in that genre).

★ Respectfully and lovingly restored from an antique book illustration and enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes and colour fading ♡
