"Hanagami Danjo no jo Arakage Fighting a Giant Salamander" (半上弾正ノ忠新景 山椒魚退治) by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, c. 1834-1835

The valiant samurai Hanagami Danjo no jo Arakage, locked in a deadly battle with a giant salamander, stabbing it with his short sword, while the mythical monster is furiously clawing at his arm. The creature's eyes, mouth and underbelly look aflame among the deep blue waves, creating a fierce dynamic curve together with the rich armour of the warrior!
