Claude Monet's famous Japanese garden in Giverny was designed after this print - and the curve of the famous bridge is instantly recognisable!
The Kameido Tenjin Shrine cited in the title is not actually present in the picture, instead its presence is indicated by its "taikobashi" drum bridge, recognisable by its very specific flame-shaped copper ornaments on the railings, here offset by the light-cloured sky. The lush cascade of the wisteria blossoms in the foreground is admired by the passers-by, who stop one by one to gaze from the distant sidewalk decorated by bright red paper lanters. The deep hues of the pines and the river and the fast flickering of the swallows here and there above the water add to the feeling of a warmth on this summer's day...
