"Eastern Genji: The Garden in Snow" ("Azuma Genji Yuki no Niwa" 東源氏雪の庭) tryptych by Utagawa Kunisada and Utagawa Hiroshige, 1854.

★ Printed on a high-quality ceramic mug and presented in a matching box with traditional Japanese "asanoha" all-over pattern and calligraphy of the artists' names and titles of the artwork.

This gorgeous artwork shows a scene from "A Rustic Genji", a Japanese graphic novel based on the 11th-century classic The Tale of Genji.
The protagonist, Ashikaga Jiro Mitsuuji, is standing in the snow with a lady, most likely his lover, both fabulously attired. They are looking over the impeccable frosty garden, where three court ladies are having fun making a giant snow rabbit ♡
This work was a collaboration between two masters - Utagawa Kunisada (the figures and the giant snow rabbit) and Utagawa Hiroshige (the background landscape) - and capitalized on each artist’s individual strengths, with the resulting print being as sublime in its understated beauty, as it was in the skill with which it was executed ♥

★ Reproduced from archive images, respectfully and lovingly restored and enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes and colour fading.
