A Christmas greeting card with a ukiyo-e print of outstanding beauty, chosen and printed with love ｡.:*♡
Complementary classic haiku calligraphy on the back of the card.

"Atagoshita and Yabu Lane" ( 愛宕下薮小路) by Utagawa Hiroshige, 1857.

Pedestrians wading through the snowed-up street alongside a canal, their backs and umbrellas quickly becoming white as the soft snow keeps on falling.
Atagoshita district (named after its location "beneath Mount Atago,") is seen in the distance, the hill rising to the right. At the forefront there's a big clump of bamboo - it was a well-known landmark at the time and it was growing alongside the north-east corner of the mansion of the daimyo of Minakuchi. The bamboo served to protect the site from the "Kimon", the "devil's gate" (it's the place where demons will most likely enter a city or palace and it lies in the northeastern direction - hence the bamboo there!) The bamboo gave its name to Yabu ("thicket") Lane, an alley that ran along the back of the wall of the mansion. Filled with place-specific familiar sights and details, it's almost like a postcard for it's time - for those who've been to Edo or lived in Edo for a long time. "Hey, that's my street! It's the good old bamboo grove at the back of the Minakuchi mansion! Natsukashii..."
The colourful accents of the kimonos, the red colour of artist's stamps, the dark rich blue of the icy water and the birds fluttering playfully in the air, all that adds to the fresh, crispy feeling of this winter morning scene ♡
