"Hana Yori Dango" literally translates as "rice cakes rather than flowers".
This is about prefering substance over style - however lovely those "flowers" might be! .:*☆♡

It is one of the oldest Japanese saying and of course it can be interpreted with different nuances.
Perhaps it is about rising above the styled universe of online imagery and above the many empty and populist words and statements that seem to be omnipresent. About seeing what is behind the performative and the fake. Substance should be the resistance, actions should speak louder than words.
Or perhaps it is simply remembering that style is only a wrapper for substance, and it's better not to be fooled by a wrapper when it's empty, no matter how pretty it is.
