Raja Ravi Varma (1848–1906) was an influential Indian painter and artist known for his pioneering efforts in merging European academic techniques with traditional Indian themes. His rich body of work includes portraits of Indian nobility, mythological scenes, and depictions of everyday life. His art played a pivotal role in shaping modern Indian artistic sensibilities and continues to be celebrated for its fusion of realism and Indian cultural elements.

The painting "Kadambari," also known as "Music Hath Charm," shows a captivating scene: a beautiful woman elegantly draped in a saree is seated on a marble bench, completely engrossed in playing the veena. Her velvet shoe has slipped onto the ground, yet she remains oblivious to both it and the lush flowers that surround her. Enthralled by the melody she creates, she remains lost in the music. The interplay of soft light and shadows, combined with the warm hues of the veena and the garden, along with the subtle glint of gold in her sari, collectively evoke a sense of opulence, tranquility, and a dream-like state of contemplation.
