“Gyōsho Tōkaidō: Ishikushi” (行書東海道 石薬師) by Utagawa Hiroshige, c.1842.

Travellers and pack horses make their way through falling snow beneath towering trees — a quiet winter’s journey along the Tōkaidō road. Hiroshige’s delicate gradations of colour and serene composition convey both the beauty and solitude of travel, transforming an everyday scene into a moment of timeless poetry.
